Are £300 Headphones Really Worth It? | Edifier Stax Spirit S3 Review

Reviewing the Edifier Stax Spirit S3 headphones, among the best sounding Bluetooth over-ears of 2022 with a £329 UK asking price. I’ve been testing the Stax Spirit S3 for over a week now and here’s my final verdict on these expensive headphones!

If you’re a true audiophile with a Hi Res Audio device and you want the best possible streaming performance, then these Edifier cans are worth considering. You can get them wired up but the Bluetooth streaming is sublime, as long as you have an Android smartphone. No AAC means bad times for iPhone users.

Unfortunately the lack of Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) is a real downer on the Stax Spirit S3. That means outdoor use is limited, as podcasts and audiobooks especially are drowned out by loud external noises.

You also have limited control over the sound via the Edifier Connect app, while the controls could use some re-thinking. That’s quite a few negatives for a £300 pair of headphones, so the Stax Spirit S3 doesn’t represent the best value despite the great battery life and excellent audio.

High frequency welding is one of the more mature forms of heat sealing. In use since the 1940’s, hf welding capitalize on the molecular structure of certain thermoplastics and their receptiveness to radio frequencies to produce precise welds on sheets of material. Because of the nature of the weld, it makes a strong leak proof seal without taking too much from the strength of the original materials. For this reason and many more, high frequency welding is a useful and powerful part of manufacturing.
