Apple is making some disruptive laptops, so if you are going to make a laptop more expensive than, say an M2 Macbook Air, it needs to be really unique. LG thinks they’ve done it, with the new 16 inch LG Gram. Now if you are thinking this is just another LG gram, hang in there. I’ll get to the benchmark speed testing in a minute, but let’s start with the bread and butter of this laptop. As the name suggests, this is one of the lightest laptops I’ve ever held and it boasts a high resolution 16 inch touch screen, surprisingly mechanical keys, impressive new software, and of course, an absolute powerhouse under the hood, all in less than 3.26 pounds. But is this all too good to be true?

PHYSICAL
Ultra light!!!! 3.26lb (MBP 16 is 4.8) [47% heavier]
Claimed 18.5 hrs video playback [my testing showed about 9 hrs with full brightness, volume, and high fan mode]
Magnesium alloy body looks like plastic, but it is stronger and lighter
Passed military grade durability testing

DISPLAY
16:10 touchscreen
2560 x 1600 so somewhere between 1080 and 4k

PEN
New pen apps are good for notes, but I still just use onenote on all my devices
Feels decent enough. Two buttons, works well for drawing or handwriting notes

PORTS
I wish there was another type-c on the right side

I thought we had a fingerprint sensor on the power button…?

KEYBOARD
Backlit
VERY clicky keys. These probably have the most resistance of any laptop I have used recently. I’ve been seeing a trend away from the super sleek and quiet.
More laptops like to have the mechanical key feel. I love how HP does it (sounds and feels pretty mechanical, but still low travel and quiet enough)
These are loud and sound/feel A LOT like the big mechanical keyboards some people love. I could get used to this though
My typing speed is honestly pretty quick. The more I type, the more I like these keys

This has lots of settings to adjust the display, keyboard, microphones, and more
There are great presets too!
Choose cooling mode for fans
Choose display warmth, color range, and touchscreen on/off
Enable or disable mic and camera easily
Control keyboard lighting and timing, or set custom hot keys
Battery and power controls, including the option to charge devices when the laptop is off
AI noise canceling and speaker optimization (for video calls)

I recommend going into task manager and disabling some of the LG stuff like PCMover PopUP, MS Teams,

Comes with Disney+, McAffee, and other crap software that LG added to subsidize the laptop

LG Glance (privacy, other eye tracking stuff)
Alexa support

CONS
Plenty of screen wobble, especially if you use a riser and no separate keyboard
A little bit of a fingerprint magnet on the outside
This is expensive
There is a lot of flex

PROS
One of the world’s lightest 16″ laptops
Incredibly fast based on the geekbench testing
Flexibility is good for durability – less likely to crack – my wife had last year’s model and it is still doing quite well
LG’s control panel is great
Pretty decent battery life given the large display and thin/light body

If you are more expensive than Apple laptops, you REALLY need to do something to justify yourself. This has a large touchscreen, a pen, and a super light design
But for less money, you can get an M2 Macbook Air with a much sturdier build
